The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife welcomed the first visit of the luxury cruise ship Explore I on Tuesday, operated by Explora Journeys, a subsidiary of the MSC Group. Measuring 248 metres in length and accommodating 900 guests, the vessel prioritises sustainability and arrived at the port with 260 passengers and 646 crew members on board.

The Explore I features 461 suites, each spanning 42 square metres and situated within a total area of 10,240 square metres dedicated to private spaces and 16,000 square metres for communal areas. Among its amenities are five swimming pools, including a retractable glass-roof deck and four outdoor pools, as well as 64 exclusive Balinese beds.

Guests can indulge in a culinary selection that comprises six restaurants and 11 distinctive dining experiences, featuring the Michelin-starred Anthology restaurant. Additionally, there are 12 bars and lounges available, both inside and outside, along with room service.

Experiences in Tenerife

While visiting the Island, passengers had the opportunity to partake in activities that highlighted Tenerife’s natural and cultural landmarks. Options included excursions to Teide National Park, tours of local wineries for sampling regional wines, and off-road adventures through the La Esperanza mountains and the Ucanca Valley.

Moreover, the shores of Radazul provided kayaking opportunities, allowing cruise passengers to discover the stunning volcanic landscapes from the water. Local gastronomy, featuring dishes such as potatoes with mojo, was also integrated into the experience.

The cost of experiencing life aboard the Explore I ranges from 3,575 to 4,950 euros, depending on the chosen itinerary. The luxury arm of the MSC Group has plans for additional stops in the Canary Islands, reinforcing the significance of the island ports as a premier destination for high-end maritime tourism.

About the Explore I

Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Explora Journeys is the luxury division of the MSC Group. The company has incorporated cutting-edge technologies into its vessels to merge innovative design with sustainability.

Launched in 2023, the Explore I is the inaugural ship in a fleet that aims to expand to six vessels by 2028. Its mission is to create itineraries that link renowned destinations with lesser-known locations, providing an experience that emphasises exclusivity while respecting the environment.
