SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE December 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Thus far this year, the Canary Islands have welcomed a total of 5,699 unaccompanied migrant minors, making up 13% of the total entries – 41,862 – as per data released this Monday by the spokesperson for the regional government, Alfonso Cabello.

During the press briefing to discuss the agreements from the Government Council, he emphasised the “record number” of migrants arriving by sea, noting that in the month of November alone, the islands saw the arrival of 1,004 minors.

Cabello noted that they are continuing to “organise schedules” to secure a three-way meeting with the central government and the PP – although the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has stated that this is likely to occur on Thursday – so that there can be a “clear position” or a “principle of agreement” ahead of the Conference of Presidents on December 13.

“I cannot specify a particular day and time, but it will be before the 13th as that is what we had all agreed upon,” he added.

The Executive spokesperson expresses hope that, beyond the incidences of alleged corruption involving the PSOE, and once the federal congress has concluded, efforts will commence on the “issues that genuinely concern citizens,” specifically regarding the reform of immigration law, adherence to the ‘Canarian agenda’, and the settlement of overdue budget items.
