The Cabildo of Tenerife and the island’s Tax Consortium are set to formalise a partnership to conduct cadastral updating work in areas impacted by the fire in August 2023. Under this agreement, the Cabildo will allocate 136,052 euros, enabling the insular body to access cadastral information, particularly the precise boundaries and area of the affected plots, along with identifying the current owners of the farms.

The Primary Sector councillor, Valentín González, states that “the aim is to locate the proprietors of the farms to initiate the restoration of the centuries-old agrosystems that were harmed by the fire, which possess immeasurable ecological importance,” highlighting regions where significant populations of chestnut trees, temperate fruit trees, and dryland orchards were present.

González notes, “From the Primary Sector division, we will invest 1.7 million euros in revitalising the chestnut agrosystem, which was severely impacted by the fire last summer, resulting in a loss of 74% across the municipalities of Arafo, Candelaria, La Orotava, El Rosario, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria, and Santa Úrsula.”

Concerning the agreement validated by the Government Council, it constitutes a measure aimed at assisting owners in accurately identifying their properties to enhance the protection and legal security of their heritage while promoting sustainable development.
