Assistance Announced for Playa Jardín Closure in Puerto de la Cruz

Recently, the Puerto de la Cruz City Council convened with local merchants from Punta Brava who have been impacted by the closure of the Playa Jardín facility, thus upholding its commitment to assist the most affected sectors.

The councillors responsible for Commercial Development, Commerce, and Finance—Alonso Acevedo, Diego Moreno, and Pedro Antonio Campos—were present during the meeting, where they provided comprehensive information about the application process and addressed any queries prior to the commencement of the submission period, which is set to take place this week. The aim was to ensure that all those impacted have a clear understanding of the available support.

As part of their initiative to alleviate the financial struggles faced by these businesses, the City Council will allocate a total of 100,000 euros to the affected enterprises. This funding is in addition to various economic and fiscal measures that have already been implemented, including a 50% reduction in waste collection fees, a provision that currently benefits merchants and will remain in effect indefinitely.

“We are true to our word and are dedicated to ensuring that the aid is distributed before the year concludes, aiming to help mitigate the impact on businesses caused by the Playa Jardín situation,” stated the councillor for the Treasury. The government spokesperson also mentioned that the 50% reduction in waste collection fees will continue indefinitely, with new measures being considered for the upcoming year.

Diego Moreno further emphasised that “this issue has been prioritised as the City Council must persist in implementing measures that alleviate the circumstances of companies affected by the closure of Playa Jardín. We have exerted every effort to guarantee that these guidelines are presented on the agreed dates with the merchants.”

These initiatives are part of the first package of economic measures announced by the Government in mid-September, designed to support those impacted by the Playa Jardín crisis, prompting the City Council to prioritise its administrative actions on this matter.
