A canoe arrives at Puerto de la Restinga, on 25 November 2024, in El Hierro, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, Canary Islands (Spain). Maritime Rescue has deployed its two vessels, Salvamar Adhara and Salvamar Acrux, following a report of two – Antonio Sempere – Europa Press

VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 30 (EUROPA PRESS)

Maritime Rescue intercepted the second canoe of the day in El Hierro at approximately 12:00 this Saturday. The vessel was an unpowered boat carrying around 130 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa.

This information was provided by the national agency, which further noted that the vessel ‘Tony Smith’ alerted the Rescue Centre in Tenerife about the sighting of an irregular craft approximately 30 miles from La Restinga.

Consequently, the controllers dispatched the Salvamar Adhara, which located the unpowered canoe and carried out the rescue of the roughly 130 individuals on board, proceeding to the La Restinga Dock.
