The Lagoon will celebrate this Sunday, December 1 as Neighborhood Day, marking its twenty-eighth edition this year and reinforcing its role as a day of community and gathering for families within the municipality.
Christ Square will serve as the venue for this celebration, organised by the Federation of Neighbourhood Associations FAV Aguere in conjunction with the Department of Citizen Participation, with support from the Festivals, Local Development, and Youth departments of the City Council.
The festivities will kick off with music starting at 10:00 a.m., setting the ideal atmosphere to welcome guests. At 11:00 a.m., the celebrated artist Virginia Guantanamera will lead a singing workshop, expected to be one of the main highlights of the event. Subsequently, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., traditional Canarian music will take the spotlight with performances from the Itamar and Cuevas del Lino groups.
At 1:00 p.m., the Los Joroperos Comparsa will bring a splash of colour and rhythm to the occasion with their show, followed by a formal ceremony at 1:30 p.m. This ceremony will honour three individuals who have significantly impacted the municipality’s history through their commitment. Francisco Reyes Hernández will receive recognition for his invaluable contributions to the Anaga hamlets, while Valeriano Báez Ramos will be praised for his work in Los Batanes and the Anaga Rural Park. Additionally, the contributions of Fernando Hernández García will be acknowledged for his dedication to the well-being of La Laguna’s residents.
The day’s festivities will continue with lunch at 2:00 p.m., featuring a Grand Paella catering for 1,500 people, catering to all tastes with a vegan option available. A finals tournament will also take place.
The afternoon will see music enlivening the celebration with a performance by Marcela Kauffman at 3:00 p.m., followed by appearances from Pepe Benavente and Luis Deseda. Before the event concludes, there will be a raffle at 4:30 p.m., and at 4:50 p.m., the group Ni un Pelo de Tonto will provide the final musical entertainment.
For younger attendees, there will be children’s workshops, bouncy castles, and various games, among other activities.
Furthermore, a volunteer section will be established, featuring participation from Cáritas Diocesana, Defensa Animal Tenerife, and Tenerife por la Bici, as well as various tents showcasing local products and artisans to promote the municipality’s artisanal craftsmanship.
