This morning, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council unveiled its traditional nativity scene at the entrance of the Municipal Palace. This year, the display is inspired by the landscapes, customs and traditions of the city of Belén, providing a vivid backdrop for the birth scene, which can now be visited in Santa Cruz’s capital.
The city’s mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, welcomed fifty pupils from the Gusyluz children’s centre who were present for the unveiling. “During the entire month of December, throughout the Christmas season, children and adults alike are welcome to visit, as it is a cherished tradition we uphold every year,” he stated. The mayor also took the opportunity to commend the efforts made in the neighbourhoods, “thanks to the passion of many artisans, which we encourage to ensure they continue to thrive.”
This year’s nativity scene is set in a desert landscape adorned with terrazzo colours, where the figures encapsulate the essence of life in Bethlehem. It features everything from flocks of sheep to the Three Wise Men and the presentation of the Child Jesus. The biblical-style nativity scene is arranged around its entire perimeter and uniquely showcases figures standing at 35 centimetres, with constructions commencing at a height of one metre.
Adjacent to the nativity scene stands the traditional Christmas tree, which has been installed by the Grupo Jesús Rodríguez company. This artificial fir tree stands 5.70 metres tall.
Starting today, public visiting hours are from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
