Revamping Parking Solutions to Energize Commerce in Puerto de la Cruz

Developing new parking facilities, both above ground and below, alongside exploring alternative solutions for the existing spaces, is amongst the top priorities of the Government of Puerto de la Cruz to enhance commerce and tourism within the city. One of the initiatives includes revitalising the Plaza de la Constitución project and undertaking renovations of Plaza de Europa, “as well as options for the Castle area and the fishing dock ahead of the launch of the Insular Sports Centre Aquatic”.

This was articulated yesterday by the mayor, Leopoldo Afonso, during the visit of the Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce and the Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, who came to present the diagnosis report and a fresh proposal plan for the Open Commercial Zone (ZCA). The meeting also included the vice-counselor of his area, Felipe Afonso El Jaber; the general director of Commerce, David Mille; and the Councilor for Commerce, Diego Moreno.

In this regard, Domínguez asserted that Puerto de la Cruz “has not made sufficient progress recently,” with evidence being that of the 21 actions envisaged in the Improvement and Competitiveness Plan, merely 7 have been executed, which indicates that “much remains to be accomplished” in a city “brimming with opportunities.”

Moreover, he highlighted the necessity of presenting a “more cohesive” image of commerce and the need for specialisation within the sector. Thus, the document shared yesterday with municipal officials outlines projects that are to be implemented in the short, medium, and long term.

“From the Government of the Canary Islands, we are prepared to support this municipality that has always epitomised the heartbeat of Northern Tenerife. If the heart is not vigorous, the rest of the body cannot thrive. This region of the island must continue to progress, and you will have a reliable ally in the Government of the Canary Islands willing to finance the required actions,” stressed Domínguez before commencing a tour around the Customs House, where activities for Puerto Urban Market took place yesterday. This commercial revitalisation initiative provided a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises to showcase their products during a unique trading event.

“Many projects are pending or yet to begin, and the support and investment forthcoming will be pivotal for the city’s urban planning and tourism,” the mayor further added.
