The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through its Public Services division, has officially opened the Tío Pino children’s arch situated in the Ofra-South Coast district. This initiative is part of lot 1 in the plans for the establishment of new children’s play areas by the Council. This recreational area, designed for the enjoyment of youngsters, encompasses a total area of 630 m2 which includes two benches, with a budget of 358,538.38 euros.

A notable highlight of the park is the introduction of a distinctive Nautilus play structure that offers a variety of games. Additionally, the park features a climbing wall, rings for traversing, and a series of sock tubes accompanied by three enclosed slides of varying heights. Another significant addition is the inclusive rotating carousel, alongside multi-play equipment, swings, and spring toys.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, expressed his “great pleasure with the renovation of this park that signifies our dedication to the children and families of Santa Cruz. This park not only serves as a fun area but also stands as a secure and inclusive venue for all boys and girls.”

Bermúdez, reiterating Santa Cruz’s status as a Child-Friendly City, noted the opening of this new space aligned with International Children’s Day, which is celebrated on 20th November. He emphasised that “one of our commitments is, in fact, to enhance the city with areas for children, where they can socialise and enjoy a healthy, safe environment alongside their peers and families.”

The Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, remarked that “a core priority of my department is to create quality public spaces that foster children’s development.” He also mentioned that “with this new design, we not only ensure the safety of children but have also integrated inclusive games, which is a vital aspect of our equality and accessibility strategy.”

Santiago Díaz Mejías, the councilor of the Ofra-Costa Sur district, stated that “the inauguration of this playground is a cause for celebration within the district as it will serve as a gathering point for many families.”

Lastly, the Councilor for Education and Youth, Charín González, conveyed her pleasure regarding “the unwavering commitment to establish recreational spaces for young ones at home, to foster a joyful childhood.”

The City Council reminds that last September, the Cuchillos de Tristán playground was inaugurated, also located in Ofra-Costa Sur. With the completion of this project, the municipality continues to enhance public spaces and foster more accessible and safe environments for the enjoyment of children. Presently, the municipality boasts over 160 playgrounds distributed across the five districts.
