The La Laguna City Council, through the Works and Infrastructure department, has commenced the enhancement works to facilitate the new parking facilities announced for the coastal area of Low tide, as disclosed by the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, during the discussion of a motion in last Thursday’s plenary session.
This new car park will be situated on a site nestled between La Marea and El Acantilado streets, providing the region with a total of 110 new parking spots. The area will also be enhanced with a new line of sizable trees to improve the quality of the existing greenery in the vicinity.
The project, with a budget of 33,704 euros, has initiated with excavation work for the irrigation systems, according to reports from the Works department. Following this, the area will be prepared and the ground compacted for use, in addition to the installation of lighting throughout the surroundings.
Furthermore, a decorative fence, constructed from wood and/or natural trunks, will be erected in the northern section of the parking area. This is intended to segregate the car park from the nearby residences and create an additional recreational area, which will also be furnished.
The Works department anticipates that all these space enhancement activities will take approximately 25 days to complete.
The councillor in charge of the Works and Infrastructure department, Ángel Chinea, emphasised that, “in line with our commitment to expanding public parking spaces throughout the municipality, coastal towns remain a top priority for us, as they experience significant demand all year round, not solely in the summer months, due to the challenges posed by the area’s geography and urban layout.” He added that, “each new parking facility we can establish is beneficial for both residents and tourists.”
It is important to note that the City Council’s goal for this term is to generate up to 7,000 new parking spaces across the municipality, with several parking facilities already inaugurated. Soon, another will be added in Los Majuelos and on Seña Street Nicasia, adjacent to Camino La Rúa.
