SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 Nov (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has made the decision to halt walking ascents to the summit of Teide from 4 in the afternoon until 9 in the morning, following the recent need to rescue over a hundred individuals in the vicinity of the Altavista refuge within the past three days.
This announcement was made by the Minister for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies of the Cabildo, Blanca Pérez, after convening a meeting to discuss the circumstances surrounding Teide National Park and implement urgent measures to ensure the safety of individuals.
The councillor emphasised that the events of this weekend represent an “entirely extraordinary” situation that has never before been witnessed, and added that this decision will help prevent many individuals from ascending to the peak of Teide without appropriate gear, such as shorts or unsuitable footwear.
