The Christmas lights in La Laguna, which have become increasingly popular amongst Tenerife residents as the herald of the festive season, are set to be one of the most eagerly anticipated occasions once more.

Since August, the local council has been engaged in the installation of an elaborate display of illuminations designed to brighten the historic centre and various neighbourhoods within the municipality, drawing thousands who are keen to witness the moment the lights are activated.

This year, over 3,000 decorative items, including 300 brand new designs, will embellish the streets of La Laguna, aiming to surpass the expectations from previous years.

Citizens of the city, along with those from other areas of Tenerife and general visitors, have already highlighted the date for the lights ceremony on their calendars, which will take place this year on Friday, November 22, at 8:00 p.m. in the historic centre.

The occasion will serve as a precursor to the White Night festivities scheduled for Saturday, November 23. Following the inauguration in the city centre, the lights will gradually illuminate locations such as La Cuesta, Taco, Valle de Guerra, Punta del Hidalgo, Bajamar, and Tejina.

Updates on the Christmas lights in La Laguna

Among the most eagerly awaited features is the 20-metre luminous tunnel with colourful effects, set to be installed in the historic centre, alongside the Parque Ilusión Ciudad de La Laguna, located within Constitución Park, which is expected to become one of the most photographed spots during this festive season.

The famous arch of lights on Obispo Rey Redondo Street, which has come to symbolise Christmas in La Laguna, will also be aglow once again.

The local council has again chosen to employ low-energy LED technology, as well as updating and reusing designs from previous years.

As an additional measure, the Christmas lighting will be switched off from 1:30 a.m. in areas such as the historic centre, Tejina, Valle de Guerra, and La Cuesta-Taco. This regulation will be facilitated by the installation of independent supply lines for the lighting.

The installation of the Christmas lights not only serves as a visual delight, but it also enhances commercial and tourist activities within La Laguna. According to local authorities, this annual event is vital for stimulating the local economy, attracting thousands who, in addition to relishing the festive atmosphere, frequent shops, restaurants, and other local businesses.
