Two and a half million light bulbs will illuminate Christmas in Santa Cruz starting from the 21st, when the lighting ceremony is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Plaza de la Candelaria. This new location for the anticipated festivities was confirmed by the Councilor for Public Services of the city council, Carlos Tarife, who stated, “this will mark a significant change. The relocation of the Christmas announcement to all the chicharreros is here to stay, providing greater visibility to a traditional event that gathers a large crowd each year.”

In recent years, the Plaza del Príncipe had served as the chosen site for the Christmas lighting, but last night this central area of Santa Cruz acted as the hub for the rehearsal ahead of the exciting light and colour spectacle that will enchant the municipality. The local council has allocated one million euros for this event.

The mayor noted that the installation of Christmas lights and decorations is over 90% complete across the five districts, aiming for nearly 100% coverage by the 21st throughout the city.

Moreover, among the updates, Tarife emphasised the new welcome and congratulatory sign now visible on the pool bridge at the entrance to the city along the TF-5, which has replaced the previous one that had to be dismantled due to safety concerns. Additionally, this year, decorative lighting will be installed at two more entry points to the capital, specifically on Tres de Mayo and on TF-4, located between the Fairgrounds and the Auditorium.

Furthermore, the Rambla de Santa Cruz will again feature sections of Christmas lights similar to last year, while the Plaza del Príncipe will retain its familiar elements, showcasing arches and the large Christmas tree now in view.

The eagerly awaited Christmas lighting event in the Plaza de la Candelaria, chaired by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, will be accompanied by an emotionally charged show that promises a variety of musical performances for the enjoyment of the entire family.
