Landslide Strikes El Draguillo Track Amidst Intense Rainfall

The intense rainfall that impacted various regions of the island of Tenerife on Friday morning has obstructed the route of The Draguillo in the Anaga massif, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, due to a landslide of rocks.

This has been announced by the local council, which has taken the decision to restrict access to the track because of the landslides that occurred throughout the morning, leading to instability in the slope.

The councillor in charge of the area, Gladis de León, affirmed that no injuries have been reported due to the landslides, and that the affected area has already been marked off. However, she stated that “work on stabilisation and reopening will commence once the current rain and storm warnings cease.”

This precautionary measure will also entail monitoring the situation, and various technical assessments will be commissioned to evaluate both the risk posed by this slope and the potential actions required,” the councillor added that “the Infrastructure department of the Capital City Council will urgently assess technical solutions to address this issue.”

The Anaga district office has indicated that residents, together with users of the track, will be promptly updated regarding the progress of the work towards reopening access.

The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has issued a pre-alert for rain and storms since this Friday for the entire archipelago, as locally intense showers are likely to occur.
