SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Thursday, the Parliament of the Canary Islands played host to the launch of the photographic exhibition ‘Women in Capitals’, created by the artist Mónica Rodríguez. This initiative boasts a decade-long history and has graced various exhibition spaces across the islands, making its debut in the Chamber.
The presentation featured the secretary of the Board, Patricia Hernández, the coordinator of Equality Policies of the Chamber, Carmen Barreto, and the artist herself.
“Mónica Rodríguez has presented us with an extraordinary collection of photographs that highlight the efforts and accomplishments of many Canarian women across different generations and professions, all bound by their resilience and dedication,” stated Patricia Hernández during the event.
She further remarked that these images “serve as a well-deserved honour for all of them, particularly acknowledging our rural women who work tirelessly to preserve segments of our culture and traditions.”
Meanwhile, Carmen Barreto, the coordinator of Equality Policies of the Chamber, emphasised that “this initiative aligns with the specific aim of the Equality Plan of the Canary Islands Parliament, which seeks to raise awareness of the contributions made by numerous women throughout their professional journeys.”
Closing the inauguration, photographer and artist Mónica Rodríguez Medina highlighted that the stories of these women “are truly inspiring” as “each photograph carries a narrative that deserves to be shared; they are genuine, capable, and authentic women.”
The exhibition will be on display in the Parliament exhibition hall until November 26, open from Monday to Friday during the morning and afternoon, and on Saturdays in the morning.
