In the span of a decade (2014-2023), Tenerife has witnessed a reduction of 820 hectares of farmland, dropping from 18,028 to 17,208 hectares, according to statistics from the Association of Farmers and Ranchers (Asaga). This decrease affects both seasonal crops, such as cereals, potatoes, legumes, vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants, and citrus, as well as perennial crops like avocados and bananas. The latter have diminished from 7,660 hectares in 2014 to 7,397 hectares by 2023. A similar pattern has emerged concerning the various types of crops. Specifically, permanent crops, those cultivated for over two years with multiple harvests, have decreased from 10,367 to 9,811 hectares.
