SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Nov. 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its Highways Department, announced on Monday the commencement of enhancement and rehabilitation work on the southern motorway (TF-1). This initiative aims to enhance the safety measures for the 70,000 motorists who traverse this section daily, specifically between Arico, Fasnia and Güímar.
Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, stated in a release that this represents the largest investment in road infrastructure this year, amounting to a total of 30 million euros.
“The project will take place over a 24-kilometre stretch between the municipalities of Arico, Fasnia and Güímar with the objective of refurbishing the road surface. This work is part of the strategic planning we undertake to enhance the roads in Tenerife,” she remarked.
Additionally, the Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, pointed out that the resurfacing work will be conducted at night to minimise disruptions to traffic.
“The project, which is expected to last until Friday, will occur from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., during which time the central lanes will be closed in both directions near the municipalities of Arico, Fasnia and Güímar. We will designate the outer lanes as detours, employing them as slower lanes for both directions. Therefore, we urge road users to exercise heightened caution when traversing this route and to heed the signs and instructions from personnel in the Highways department,” he elaborated.
The enhancement and rehabilitation initiatives on the southern motorway (TF-1) are part of a broader programme comprising 70 measures aimed at improving, among other aspects, safety conditions and mobility on roads throughout Tenerife.
To this end, improvement works are being conducted on over 600 kilometres of roads across the island. This project, which entails an investment exceeding one million euros, concentrates on the renewal of road signage and the enhancement of visibility on roads that necessitate attention due to deterioration from usage and the passage of time.
The actions involve nocturnal work on the following routes: TF-111 (Valle Jiménez and Valle Tabares), TF-180 (Santa Cruz-La Laguna), TF-165 (Tacoronte), TF-156 (access to El Boquerón), TF-163 (Valle de Guerra and El Pris), TF-154 (Tegueste), TF-176 (Santa Cruz-El Rosario), TF-174 (La Matanza-La Victoria) and TF-213 (La Victoria).
In total, over 600,000 linear metres of road markings and 10,000 square metres of symbols and delineation are being addressed.
