Officers from the Civil Guard’s Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF) at Tenerife South airport, in collaboration with Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency, have executed actions resulting in the arrest of a 66-year-old man, suspected of committing eight crimes related to the theft of tobacco from retail outlets situated within the airport.
Following an inquiry initiated after a complaint was lodged, Civil Guard agents successfully uncovered a total of eight instances of tobacco theft that had occurred at a commercial outlet inside the airport.
The method employed by the suspect was consistently identical; to access the airport section where the retail outlet is situated, he purchased a flexible ticket, from which he generated a boarding pass that he ultimately did not utilise, allowing him to alter the date multiple times for ongoing access to the commercial zone of the airport.
During the investigation, ample evidence was gathered through camera footage, observations, and various other activities conducted by the officers, enabling the identification of the alleged perpetrator, who successfully pilfered cartons of tobacco valued at 3,500 euros, according to the Civil Guard’s report.
The apprehended individual, along with the relevant actions taken, has been presented before the appropriate Judicial Authority, which has issued an order prohibiting him from entering the commercial establishment within the airport premises.
