SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 8 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of the Canary Islands has revealed the details of the ‘Canary Islands Awards’, which are set to be presented on May 30, 2025, during the official celebration of ‘Canary Islands Day’.
This year, the awards will acknowledge categories in Literature, Sports, and Popular Culture, as stated in the announcement published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Government.
In the Literature category, the award will honour individuals or organisations whose creative work, utilising language as a medium, makes a significant contribution to enhancing Canarian culture.
In the Sports category, the awards will recognise those individuals or organisations whose efforts in the realms of organisation, practice, and promotion of sports activities have made a notable impact on the development of their inherent values and their outreach beyond the region.
For the Popular Culture category, recognition will be given to those individuals or organisations that have significantly contributed to our identity and popular culture. This is understood as encompassing activities that have emerged from the realities of the Canarian people, expressing their interests and contributing to the construction of their future.
The deadline for submitting nominations from academies, cultural or research centres, universities, institutions, and individuals who meet the criteria is December 31.
Nominations can be submitted in two ways: either through the electronic headquarters of the Presidency of the Government at https://sede.gobiernodecanarias.org/sede/procedimientos_serv… or at the offices in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located at Avenida José Manuel Guimerá, 5, and in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at Plaza Doctor Rafael O’Shanahan, 1.
