This Thursday, Guardamar Talía rescued 47 migrants – 39 males and eight females – from a canoe that was discovered approximately 43 miles south of La Restinga, in the waters off El Hierro, according to sources from Maritime Rescue who informed Europa Press. They also noted that there were cats aboard the vessel.
The cayuco was initially detected by the sailboat Cap’tain Kirk around 9:00 a.m. but then lost track of it. Consequently, Maritime Rescue alerted fishing boats operating in the vicinity, and one of them was able to re-locate it.
Following the rescue, the migrants were brought ashore just before 1:00 p.m. at the port of La Restinga where they received assistance from health services.
