The inhabitants of the Salamanca neighbourhood continue to raise their concerns regarding the “insecurity” of this urban area, which has become a hotspot for commercial thefts, alongside a notable rise in drug users and homeless individuals frequenting the locale.
Local residents have organised themselves to urge the Chicharrero City Council to erect barriers in several locations to curtail the development of additional crime hubs. As recently reported by DIARIO DE AVISOS, they have called for the closure of the Cineastas Teodoro and Santiago Ríos walkway, which links Santiago Cuadrado Street with Asuncionistas Avenue, and they are now also advocating for restrictions on the lower section of the Zurita Bridge.
For this particular area, they insist on the installation of a fence to obstruct the access of drug users, citing that “it is a perilous entry point, situated adjacent to the edge of the Santos ravine, which has become a gathering spot for suspected criminals,” they emphasised. Consequently, and in light of the council’s initiative initiated last Monday to secure one side of the Zurita Bridge, near the Bingo, in a bid to prevent further suicide incidents, the community is requesting that these troublesome areas also be restricted.
