Unidas se Podemos has requested a comprehensive report from Endesa regarding its facilities following the tragic death of a dog in Santa Cruz de Tenerife last Tuesday, which allegedly resulted from an electric shock associated with one of the company’s manhole covers.
The party emphasises in a statement that this incident has sparked “significant concern” among the public, thus highlighting the “urgent” need to inspect and maintain the electrical infrastructure within the municipality.
The councillor and co-spokesperson for Unidas se Podemos, Rubens Ascanio, has underscored the necessity of ensuring the safety of both residents and their pets.
“This unfortunate event not only highlights possible negligence in maintaining electrical facilities but also poses a significant threat to public safety. It is imperative that Endesa conducts a thorough inspection of all its infrastructure along public thoroughfares,” asserted Ascanio.
The political group insists that Endesa produce a detailed account of the current condition of its electrical installations in the area and establish a preventive maintenance strategy. This action aims to ensure that all electrical components, particularly those situated in busy zones, are in optimal working order and do not pose a risk to the community.
The group observes that in the historic centre, numerous cables dangle haphazardly or are precariously affixed to older structures. “We urge Endesa to take immediate action to review and rectify installations that clearly exhibit signs of deterioration or improper function. It is crucial that all necessary measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future and to ensure the safety of all residents in our municipality,” he added.
The group’s request also encompasses a plea for Endesa to commit to regular inspections and maintenance of its electrical systems to avert future incidents.
According to Ascanio, this appeal reflects the necessity to safeguard not only individuals but also the urban environment and the animals residing within the city. “It is vital that our public infrastructures are upheld to a standard that guarantees the safety of all. The tragedy that has occurred serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of neglecting the state of our urban facilities,” concluded the co-spokesperson.
