The trade union Movimiento Sindical Canario (MSK) has declared a strike notice affecting employees of the firm Insae, responsible for the maintenance services of the Auditorium of Tenerife, “due to unpaid salaries.”
This measure impacts a total of eight employees out of the 105 that the company employs on the islands, who provide services at the airports of La Gomera and El Hierro, and manage public lighting in Breña Alta (La Palma), Pájara (Fuerteventura), and Tías (Lanzarote) as well as the Príncipe Felipe building in Tenerife.
The workers have indicated in a statement that they have not received any responses to their ongoing requests to the company, and they have now gone two months without pay alongside nearly a year of persistent delays, leading to a sense of “uncertainty” regarding their futures, which is also causing significant personal stress.
Specifically, concerning the Tenerife Auditorium, they have made every effort for the management to meet with the personnel representative and the union to explore potential solutions, yet “they seem disinterested in the concerns of the workers.”
Since the new ownership took over – with the Imitel company acquiring Insae in September – they report a lack of communication with the employees despite “repeated” notices of non-compliance.
Due to this situation, the union urges the owners to “reconsider and fulfil their commitments” to prevent employees from resorting to “pressure measures” that could tarnish the reputation of both the company and public administrations.
Regarding the aforementioned administrations, they assert that they must hold the successful bidders accountable for any breaches of contractual obligations.
Nevertheless, they emphasise that “the immediate priority is to find a resolution to this conflict without delay” as numerous families “lack the necessary financial means to cover essential living expenses.”
The management of the Tenerife Auditorium has released a statement expressing their regret over the plight of the Insae employees while acknowledging “the dedication and commendable work” displayed by the workers of Insae “despite the challenging circumstances they are enduring.”
They also clarify that this situation is “entirely unrelated” to Auditorio de Tenerife, “which is honouring its commitments and wishes for a swift resolution to the conflict between the company and its workforce.”
