SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 31 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands Government, through the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE), has announced this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the launch of subsidies to support the mixed Guarantee training and employment programmes for Youth (PFAE- GJ) for the 2024 edition, which will primarily target unemployed individuals under the age of 30 who are registered with the SCE and part of the national youth guarantee system.
The funding totals 23.2 million euros and is co-financed by the European Social Fund, enabling the creation of up to 62 local projects that will directly assist 930 unemployed individuals under 30. Participants will gain work experience relevant to their training and will receive a professional certificate upon completion of the programme.
These initiatives will be managed through local authorities, along with associations, foundations, and other non-profit organisations focused on training and employment. In all instances, they are required to prepare an activity report detailing the proposed actions and the accompanying training scheme.
The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, noted that these programmes, which have not been activated for three years, “enhance the employment opportunities for unemployed youth by providing training and facilitating paid work of public interest, while also offering a certificate of professionalism”.
Furthermore, she highlighted that in this initiative, “young people below the age of thirty will be prioritised, with additional preference given to the long-term unemployed; women; victims of gender violence; and individuals with a disability rating exceeding 33%”.
In addition, the SCE’s director, María Teresa Ortega, explained that these training projects, which alternate with employment under the youth guarantee scheme, “will extend across all the islands and must focus on executing a job or a public utility service or one of social interest”.
Ortega also emphasised that the aim is for the benefits of this funding “to reach the widest possible number of unemployed individuals, who will also, as a core requirement of the programmes, study subjects related to job placement guidance, occupational risk prevention, and additional transversal training topics like equality and environmental awareness,” she stated.
The Canary Islands Government will finance through the SCE both the training and operational expenses of the initiatives, including the salary and social security contributions arising from contracts signed with participants during the entire eleven-month duration of the programme.
From the onset of the project, participating individuals will be employed full-time. The deadline for the submission of projects is ten calendar days from the day after the publication of the notice in the BOC.
