Santa Cruz has classified the planning initiative for the coastal environment and urban region of Valleseco as strategic, marking a significant advancement towards the enhancement of this part of the city. The proposal, approved last Monday by the Government Board, aims to improve access to the shoreline and upgrade services for residents. To achieve this, it will take into account local residents’ suggestions, alongside considerations of technical, functional, cultural, heritage, environmental, and economic viability.
The mayor of the capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised yesterday that “this approval reflects the council’s dedication to connecting the city with the sea and providing enjoyable spaces for both locals and tourists. With this initiative, we not only enhance access to our beaches but also commit to sustainable development that honours our natural surroundings.”
Intervention
The intervention in Valleseco is part of a wider effort that encompasses recent investments in other areas, such as Acapulco-El Block and the new Charcos region, facilitated by a cooperation agreement between the general management of Coasts, the Port Authority, and the City Council.
In the meantime, the councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, underscored the necessity of addressing the ongoing deficiencies within the Valleseco area. “This initiative aims not only to enhance the area’s aesthetics but also to create economic and social opportunities. We wish for Valleseco to serve as a model of how an underutilised region can be transformed into a space that benefits the entire community.”
The study and implementation align with the objectives established by the European Union regarding the creation of resilient and environmentally sustainable infrastructures. “We are committed to implementing measures that encourage ecological transition and the modernisation of our services, thereby ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth for Santa Cruz de Tenerife,” the councillor stated yesterday.
In this regard, the Chicharrero City Council has announced that it will now concentrate on preparing the necessary projects to execute the planning of the coastal area and the urban region of Valleseco. This undertaking is anticipated to foster not just access to the shoreline but also the economic, social, and tourist development of the capital of Tenerife.
