SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29th October (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Canary Islands Government, Pablo Rodríguez, visited the ongoing construction efforts for the replacement of 30 residences in the Urban Regeneration and Renewal Area (ARRU) of Los Príncipes, located in the municipality of Los Realejos on the island of Tenerife.
This initiative, which has been awarded to FALISA SL, comes with a financial plan of 4,821,607.89 euros and is co-funded by the Housing Ministry, the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI), the Cabildo of Tenerife, and the Los Realejos City Council. The project encompasses the demolition of outdated houses and the erection of new ones within the scope of the ARRU programme.
Accompanied by various officials including the Vice President of the Canary Islands Government, Manuel Domínguez; the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila; the Minister of Housing at the Cabildo, Sonia Hernández; the Director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute, Antonio Ortega; and the Mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of their collective involvement.
The Minister underscored the Canary Islands Government’s commitment to enhancing the residential infrastructure throughout the isles: “One of our primary challenges is ensuring access to housing, and it is critical to underline the significance of this issue in our archipelago. Since the commencement of this legislature, we have prioritised housing; this initiative is crucial for improving access to quality, sustainable, and affordable homes for our residents.”
He additionally remarked that the Government of the Canary Islands “will continue promoting projects that positively influence the lives of Canarian families, in this instance on land donated by the City Council, demonstrating our teamwork for the communal good. Housing rehabilitation is essential for uplifting the living standards in the Canary Islands. Our Executive has embraced this pledge as part of a comprehensive housing policy that aims not just at increasing access but also at ensuring that existing homes are habitable and appropriate for their occupants,” he affirmed.
The Vice President echoed the importance of intergovernmental collaboration to guarantee access to adequate housing: “With the declaration of a housing emergency, the Government of the Canary Islands has placed significant emphasis on housing policies, attracting private investment, and partnering with Public Administration to ensure there is ample housing available in our archipelago,” he noted.
The Cabildo President supported this notion, celebrating that “thanks to our close collaboration, we will satisfy a long-awaited request from 30 families who had been living in unacceptable conditions within temporary structures, thus these new homes will represent a transformative change in their lives.”
In conclusion, the Mayor of Los Realejos remarked that “an excellent project has been executed, with one of its guiding principles being to keep families within the same residential area of Los Príncipes. The new homes are being constructed on an adjacent site as well as the land that previously housed the temporary units. These will be vacated and gradually dismantled, with some residents relocated to alternate homes temporarily, provided by the City Council and Visocan.”
Project Overview
The 30 residences will occupy two blocks spanning 1,067 square metres on a plot partly owned by ICAVI and partly donated free of charge by the Los Realejos City Council at the start of last year.
The development comprises two-storey semi-detached single-family homes featuring three bedrooms, with some designed for those with reduced mobility, as well as garage facilities. Furthermore, the construction meets current building regulations, which incorporate efficiency and energy conservation standards.
Additionally, the Public Works Department has undertaken a feasibility study, requested by the City Council, to evaluate improved access to the highway from the municipality.
This initiative addresses a local requirement and highlights the Executive’s support for creating effective and sustainable solutions.
