The Town Hall of Villa de San Juan de la Rambla has arranged workshops for this week focused on the Ramblera traditions observed on November 1, aimed at safeguarding and promoting the customs of “Los Santitos” and “Pan por Dios” among the younger residents of the community.
At the La Saltarina toy library in San Juan, there will be a decoration workshop throughout the week to prepare the traditional baskets used for collecting sweets on All Saints’ morning.
Meanwhile, at the La Estrella Contenta toy library in San José, an excursion to La Vera Bakery is planned for Wednesday, October 30. Participants will learn about the process of making milk bread, which bakers traditionally left as an offering on All Saints’ morning. They will also have the opportunity to knead bread themselves.
In the “Trompita” Nursery School, activities representing Bread for God will take place on October 31 in various classrooms.
During Los Santitos, on All Saints’ Day morning, the town’s streets come alive with children carrying wicker baskets filled with treats that each neighbour has prepared the previous day.
While the practice of “Bread for God” has diminished over the years, many bakeries in the upper regions still provide milk bread to their customers, serving as a nostalgic gift and reminder of times gone by. Families in the area would visit homes asking for “Bread for God,” which could include fruits, vegetables, coins, or the actual bread.
WITCHING NIGHT
From October 29 to 31, the Yellow House in San José will transform into a witch’s lair, delivering a fun-filled fright for both children and adults. Entirely themed and using all rooms of the house, a cast of a dozen actors will partake in this horror-themed event, which aims to become a regular part of the Ramblera calendar.
In this inaugural edition, on the 29th and 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the focus will be on children aged 4 to 12, offering a more adventurous and less frightening experience.
On October 31, from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., the event will cater to adults, with far more intense scares promised.
Admission will be free in both instances, with continuous showings available to groups on a first-come, first-served basis.
The designated meeting point will be the small square located at the intersection of TF-351 and Las Toscas Street.
Concerning traffic, modifications will be implemented during the two days of festivities, changing it to a single direction with access from Diecinueve de Marzo Street through La Pascuala and exiting via TF-351.
