The police operation that recently apprehended the alleged culprit behind the burning of containers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is now seeking additional individuals who may have been involved in these incidents, as announced by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, on Monday.
This announcement follows the detention of a 52-year-old man identified by the initials CJAS, who was arrested in the vicinity of Mendez Nunez in the capital of Tenerife, after witnesses observed him starting a fire in a container and attempting to ignite others.
As outlined by the mayor during a press conference, undercover officers, drones, and Local Police agents were involved in the operation, utilising traffic cameras to locate the alleged arsonist, against whom the City Council plans to take legal action.
Bermúdez expressed his dismay that this individual had burnt nearly 40 containers within just a few days, consistently targeting them during the early hours, which posed a risk to vehicles and residences.
In conclusion, the authorities “caught him almost in the act” and placed the detainee in judicial custody.
