SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28th Oct (EUROPA PRESS) –
A cayuco carrying 81 migrants arrived today, Monday, at the island of El Hierro, having set sail several days ago from a location along the sub-Saharan coast, as reported by Maritime Rescue sources.
The vessel was spotted shortly after ten in the morning, two miles south of the island, prompting the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Tenerife to promptly deploy the ‘Adhara’ rescue boat, which proceeded to the area.
Following its interception, the salvamar escorted the canoe to the port of La Restinga, where its passengers (71 men, 7 women, and 3 minors), all of sub-Saharan origin, were disembarked around eleven in the morning.
Upon reaching land, they were provided assistance by SUC and Primary Care healthcare personnel, alongside Red Cross volunteers. All were reported to be in good health, and no transfers were made to the Hospital Nuestra Señora de los Reyes.
