SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Oct (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Socialist Group at the Tijarafe Town Council will advocate in full assembly for the Canary Islands Government to amend its decision to abolish the Home Assistance Service for individuals reliant on support from the dependency agreement with the local councils, which could result in “the deterioration of care for users as well as the employment conditions of the professionals delivering the service”.
This was articulated by the PSOE spokesperson at Tijarafe Town Council, Alejandro Rocha, who emphasised that numerous families and workers associated with this service have conveyed their unease regarding the new management model that the Government of the Canary Islands plans to introduce. This change signifies “a regression in the care provided to individuals in a state of dependency”, prompting the PSOE resolution to also call upon the Tijarafe Town Council to scrutinise any decisions made by the Government that could “jeopardise the care for individuals in a state of dependency.”
Consequently, they insist that the Canary Islands Government adhere to its pledge to uphold the agreement with the Cabildo concerning the Home Assistance Service for dependent individuals, ensuring that its quality is not compromised, thereby securing an improved quality of life for the beneficiaries.
Alejandro Rocha underscored that the Cabildo must assume an active role in this effort to dismantle a public service and advocate for the framework agreement with the municipalities for the delivery of the service within the System for Autonomy and Dependency Care.
“In our municipalities, the Home Assistance Service is among the most crucial resources for those who face challenges in performing daily activities. Its significance is amplified for individuals in Dependency Situations, as it plays an essential role in enhancing the quality of life of those who, due to age, disability, illness, or other circumstances, require assistance with daily living activities,” stated the mayor.
The PSOE spokesperson is hopeful of garnering the support of all groups within the Corporation for this motion “to halt this ill-conceived proposition, which threatens such a vital and sensitive service not only for Tijarafe but for the entire island of La Palma.”
