The La Laguna City Council, through the Department of Works and Infrastructure, is set to establish two new parking areas: one located at number 9 La Libertad Avenue, adjacent to the service station between El Cristo Street and Los Majuelos Avenue; and the other on a plot between La Marea and El Acantilado streets, in Bajamar.

The Los Majuelos site, owned by the council, will enhance the number of parking spaces in the vicinity to one hundred, situated on nearly 3,000 square metres of land. The Bajamar site will offer the coastal area 110 additional parking spots, while also improving the surroundings with a new vegetation line featuring large trees, which will enrich the current greenery in the region. In the northern section of this car park, a decorative barrier will be erected to segregate the parking area from the residential properties, thereby creating an additional recreational space. The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, emphasised yesterday that “these new car parks will be a boon for the residents of both locations, as well as beneficial for local businesses.” He also noted that in the case of Los Majuelos, “it will aid in alleviating congestion in this area during La Laguna Tenerife match days and at events taking place in the Santiago Martín pavilion.”

The local councillor indicated that, with this new facility, “we aim to meet community requests whilst continuing our efforts to encourage public transport.” Ángel Chinea, the mayor responsible for Works and Infrastructure, clarified that the budget for both projects totalled 72,346 euros (38,642 euros for the Los Majuelos site and 33,704 euros for the Bajamar site). This budget encompasses “the development of both plots, removing all elements that currently occupy them and impede their utilisation before subsequently extending milling.” In both instances, the car parks will be equipped with lighting, and “the spaces will be arranged to ensure optimal use of both plots.” Additionally, these planned areas will be complemented by those nearing completion on Seña Nicasia Street, next to Camino La Rúa, where approximately another 300 spaces are anticipated. The Works department forecasts that the parking area will be ready for use by November.
