La Laguna commemorates the Day of the Dead and All Saints by once again hosting musical performances across all the cemeteries in the area. Due to the anticipated large crowds, the opening hours of these cemeteries will be extended, as noted by the local council.
From Monday, 28 October, through to Sunday, 3 November, the cemeteries of San Luis, San Juan, San Gregorio in Punta del Hidalgo, Valle de Guerra, and Tejina will operate continuously from 8:00 to 17:00. On 31 October and 1 November, extended hours will be observed, with the facilities open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Various musical groups will provide the atmosphere on 1 November, both in the morning and afternoon, across the different cemeteries.
The scheduled times for masses in the three cemeteries located in the Northeast Region (Punta del Hidalgo, Tejina, and Valle de Guerra) will occur on 1 November at 5:00 p.m., with an additional mass on 2 November at 12:00 p.m. in the Valle de Guerra cemetery. The service at the San Juan cemetery is set for 2 November at 4:00 p.m., while in San Luis, it will be held on the same day, 2 November, at 10:00 a.m.
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, highlights the positive response this musical initiative has received in previous years, stating, “This has established a unique character for the Laguna cemeteries on a day deeply rooted in the local community.” Cristina Ledesma, the councillor in charge of Cemeteries, echoes this sentiment and emphasises that these musical performances will feature ensembles comprising members from various musical bands present in La Laguna.
