SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 26 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A cayuco has made landfall today, Saturday, on the island of El Hierro under its own power. Over a hundred migrants were aboard, including one who has died, as reported by Salvamento Marítimo and Cecoes 1-1-2.
The vessel was detected shortly after three o’clock in the afternoon near the port of La Restinga, prompting the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Tenerife to dispatch the ‘Adhara’ rescue craft.
The salvamar found the canoe situated perilously close to some coastal rocks and proceeded to guide it to port, where the occupants managed to disembark unaided.
The health services from SUC, Primary Care, and the Red Cross are currently providing assistance to all individuals onboard and have confirmed the passing of one of them.
