The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Mobility and Universal Accessibility department under the guidance of Councillor Evelyn Alonso, has announced that in light of the upcoming Living Island Festival, which takes place from tomorrow until Sunday, there will be a need to close off certain road sections due to the anticipated large crowd. Specifically, access to the Town Hall Square will be restricted, affecting the section between Bravo and Murillo and Marítima Avenue, as well as the segment between Francisco La Roche Avenue and the aforementioned square. Additionally, the bicycle lane in this area will be suspended, as the port esplanade on Marítima Avenue will be fully occupied.
In particular, Plaza del Cabildo, between Bravo Murillo and Avda. Marítima, will be closed to traffic, which will be redirected along La Marina. A similar closure will be imposed on Francisco La Roche Avenue leading to the main square; vehicles coming from Avda. Francisco La Roche will be diverted towards the Vía Litoral Tunnel. Regarding the Plaza de España car park, there will be signs to facilitate vehicle access through the avenue, along with exits from Plaza España to Avda. Marítima, affected only by the entry point through Plaza de España, which will be obstructed due to the occupation of the roadway in front of the Town Hall.
Moreover, the cycle lane running parallel to the Francisco Grandi Giraud promenade, from Avda. Francisco La Roche to Plaza del Cabildo, will be closed during these days, returning to normal operations on Monday, the 28th, first thing in the morning. This measure is necessary as approximately 30 tents for the Le Good Market will be set up in that section, which will also serve as one of the access points for attendees heading to the festival, located on the port esplanade along Avda. Maritime.
Impact on bus services and stops
Due to the Isla Viva Festival commencing tomorrow, Friday, at 5:00 p.m. and continuing until services conclude on Sunday, October 27, the closure on Bravo and Murillo streets at Marítima Avenue will necessitate detours for bus lines 909, 910, 914, 916, 917, 920, 921, 945, 946, 947, and 970. As a result, bus stops in Plaza de España, Plaza de Isabel II, Cabildo, La Marina, La Alameda, and Almeyda will not be operational.
As an alternative, passengers can use line 914 in the vicinity of Alameda and La Marina towards the Intercambiador. Additionally, line 920 will resume its normal route from the Rambla de Santa Cruz stop towards the Intercambiador. The nearest bus stop in service will be Plaza de Europa.
The City Council advises the public to pay close attention to directives from authorities and security personnel and to plan their journeys carefully to mitigate any inconveniences. We apologise for any disruption this situation may impose and appreciate your understanding.
