Conferences, a round table designed to “exchange experiences”, dramatized readings, guided tours, and concerts across the three cemeteries form part of the latest edition of Los Realejos Misterioso, an event commemorating All Saints’ Day which is celebrating its ninth iteration this year.
The schedule will unfold between October 24 and 31, centring around the Casa de la Parra as the heart of the festivities. All activities are free of charge; however, registration is required for the El Camino de las Vueltas mystery route, which is set for Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. To register, please visit www.lhorsa.com/rutamisteriolosrealejos.html. This was disclosed yesterday by the Mayor, Adolfo González, alongside the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Isabel Socorro, who underscored that Los Realejos “is the sole municipality in the Canary Islands to possess a tourist guide of mysteries, a unique approach to introducing ourselves to visitors.”
The councilor mentioned the publication released in 2016, a free municipal resource available in both print and digital formats that facilitates the exploration of curious and gripping events from the past that left a lasting impression on its protagonists.
Over the years, numerous additional stories have been included; thus, “should it be republished, we would have enough material to either double or issue a new volume of legends linked to scenes from our town,” Socorro noted.
Among the activities, Encounters with the Mystery stands out, featuring a dramatized reading on Friday by local author Graciliana Montelongo, alongside three lectures. The first will take place on Monday the 28th, entitled Transcommunication: the technology of the beyond, presented by Raúl López Ramírez, who will detail methods of communicating with those who have departed.
This will be followed on Tuesday the 29th by Recipe books and offerings: rituals and commensality in the Canary Islands, delivered by Grecy Pérez Amores, and on Wednesday the 30th, The mystery of the animals augurs of death will be conducted by Jesús Callejo, a contributor to the Cuarto Milenio programme and godfather of this edition. The programme will conclude with Concerts for the deceased performed by the Pentafonías Brass Quintet on the eve.
