“Do not panic or contact 112… This is the simulation of a serious emergency.” A message of this nature will be sent this Thursday, between ten and twelve in the morning, accompanied by a loud beep, to the mobile phones of 800,000 residents in Tenerife. The 112 service of the Canary Islands Government anticipates that approximately 60,000 individuals (compared to 52,000 in Gran Canaria) will respond to the following survey concerning the ES-Alert emergency exercise. Following its trials on other islands, the system now arrives “as a challenge” to the most populated location in the Archipelago, completing the process that was initiated last year in El Hierro.
