The Nigerian artist REWA, creator of the design, showcases the poster for Carnival 2025, themed “Secrets of Africa”, at The Carnival House of Santa Cruz de Tenerife following its official launch last night in the capital.
In the poster announcement, REWA expressed, “it is a privilege for me to be part of such a significant event as the Santa Cruz Carnival.” The artwork features a female spirit dancer, portrayed as Agbogho Mmuo in the Igbo language, which, according to the artist, “embodies the spirit of the Santa Cruz Carnival, imbuing it with an inclusive interpretation, given that the costume of this mystical figure is traditionally worn by a man, despite representing a female character.” REWA thus leaves an indelible mark on the history of the Carnival, having been appointed by the Festival’s mayor.
The unveiling of the Carnival 2025 poster occurred on the evening of Friday, October 18, coinciding with the inaugural carnival festival at the Plaza de España. This event also marked the first performance of the song ‘I am a carnivaler’ by Moisés García, which has been selected as the official anthem for Carnival 2025.
The Carnival House of Santa Cruz de Tenerife now proudly displays the official poster for the forthcoming celebrations, alongside the other posters from previous years.
