Approximately thirty inhabitants of Ten-Bel, located in the Costa del Silencio area (Arona), convened yesterday to urge local authorities to deliver a “permanent solution” to the ongoing water shortages that have plagued the community in recent weeks. This demonstration follows a water outage two days prior, which left numerous residents without supply for over twelve hours, exacerbating tensions in the locality. “We demand honesty and an immediate resolution,” appealed one resident. Those attending are calling upon Arona City Council, the Tenerife Cabildo, and the Insular Water Council to address this issue and “coordinate a solution.”
The supply disruptions have impacted around 2,000 individuals across seven residential zones. Residents insist that investment is necessary to upgrade this infrastructure to ensure the reliability of this essential service. They highlight that inadequate maintenance of the distribution system, administered by a private company currently in liquidation, may be the primary reason for the interruptions.
In certain instances, they report that supply is halted in the early hours and does not resume until the afternoon, prompting them to implement emergency measures, including the installation of five water tanks. The total cost for these tanks reaches up to 30,000 euros.
