The Santa Cruz City Council, through the Autonomous Organisation of Festivals and Recreational Activities (Oafar), is set to host what will be symbolically regarded as the first Carnival dance for the 2025 edition, commencing at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow. This event, titled Secrets of Africa, will feature the unveiling of the promotional poster, created by the renowned international artist REWA, following a statement from the Festival Councillor, Javier Caraballero.
This grand celebration, open to the public, will showcase St. Pedro, a Tenerife singer and finalist at Benidorm Fest 2024 and La Voz 2017, known for his acclaimed songs like Dos Extraños, El Idiota, and Agua pa’ las flores. The event will also feature the Raspberry Orchestra, renowned for performing the most iconic Carnival tunes, ensuring all attendees will be dancing. Additionally, Arodi Llanos will lend his vocal talents, while DJ Fabrizzio Salgado will inject a contemporary urban vibe, with the entire show set to continue until midnight.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, encourages residents to join this inaugural Carnival 2025 event: “Following last year’s triumph, we have chosen to replicate the format for unveiling the promotional poster, and we do it with a simple yet vibrant spirit that embodies the excitement anticipated for the upcoming edition.”
Artist REWA, the Nigerian creator of the poster, will also be in attendance, flying in from Lagos (Nigeria) to unveil the design that will visually encapsulate the 2025 edition of the festival. REWA expressed his honour in participating, noting that “being able to present my work to the public firsthand is a rare chance I could not let slip by,” following the decision by Councillor Javier Caraballero to alternate yearly between commissioned posters and popular contests. This initiative aims to enhance the external promotion of the festivities and elevate the cultural and artistic significance of the Carnival.
Caraballero remarked, “Next Friday’s event will provide the ideal occasion for the most ardent Carnival enthusiasts to revel in a night where, if they fancy, they can arrive in costume.” He also expressed confidence that “the promotional poster will resonate well with the audience, and the arranged show will make for an unforgettable experience for all party lovers.”
Carnival 2025 will officially commence on January 31 with the inaugural Gala.
