SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 15 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, is dedicated to fostering collaborations between the public and private sectors to enhance economic diversification.
He made this assertion at the inauguration of ‘OktoberTech’ this Tuesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a prominent technological event aimed at establishing the Canary Islands as a hub for innovation and technology.
Organised and promoted by the Canary Islands Technological Excellence Cluster and Proexca, this initiative has gathered international experts, leading enterprises, startups, and academics to discuss trends, share knowledge, and form partnerships that will drive the industry’s growth, while simultaneously bolstering the local economy and enhancing the visibility of the islands as a centre for innovation.
The president remarked, “It is true that we have been discussing the vital need for economic diversification for decades, but we must acknowledge that we are already beginning to reap the benefits of our efforts.”
In this context, he cited advancements in the audiovisual sector, aeronautics, astrophysics, the blue economy, and renewable energy, among others.
“These are sectors where we have made significant strides in just a few years, leveraging the immense talent of our universities and research centres which, in conjunction with the entrepreneurial capabilities of our businesses, have created an ecosystem that thrives on mutual support,” he noted.
Clavijo reminded the audience that the government’s designation of the technology sector as strategic has enabled the establishment of the necessary instruments to ensure Canarian talent is harmonised with administrative frameworks.
Committed to sustainable development, he stated that “technology companies are crucial as they do not necessitate land use or raw materials, which are limited in the Canary Islands; they merely require ideas and dedication, and by creating quality jobs, they will aid in our goal of enhancing worker productivity,” concluded the president.
Throughout the event, participants will have the opportunity to attend presentations by prominent figures in the national technological landscape.
