The Granadilla de Abona Town Hall has announced on Tuesday, October 15, the temporary closure of the Central beach of El Médano following the detection of enterococci levels exceeding the maximum permissible limit in recent analyses.
Furthermore, a red flag has been raised, which temporarily prohibits swimming.
The Town Hall indicates that only the central beach has been impacted, and the detected level slightly surpasses the allowed maximum.
It is important to highlight that while the routine samples taken in the past weeks demonstrated good water quality, the results received today have only marginally exceeded the allowable enterococci parameter.
On Tuesday, the counter-analysis procedure was arranged with the specialised laboratory responsible for these tests.
The Town Hall assures that this decision is made to ensure the safety of swimmers, pending the counter-analysis results. The beach will reopen as soon as these confirm that the waters are safe for bathing.
It is advised to adhere to the restrictions set by the beach rescue and safety team.
Specimens of the poisonous fish blue dragon detected
Last Sunday, the Granadilla de Abona Town Hall urged visitors to the beach to exercise caution due to the report of specimens of blue dragon, a marine mollusc that can lead to significant skin irritation.
In this instance, the municipal authorities opted to complement the yellow flag in the area with a purple flag due to the presence of harmful species.
