The pupils of 1º THAT A at IES Sabino Berthelot in Ravelo, Tenerife, have circulated a formal letter via their social media platforms to convey their “profound concern and sorrow” regarding the inter-island transfers of migrant minors, thereby requesting “more compassionate treatment towards these individuals.”
This circumstance has directly impacted one of their classmates, a migrant minor who “a few days ago, without any prior warning, was relocated to another island, leaving us without the chance to bid him farewell. This situation has left us greatly astonished and unsettled, as he was fully assimilated into our class, a close friend to all, and his presence held significant importance within our group,” they express in the letter.
Moreover, they inform that other peers have also been moved, highlighting that they were “tightly bonded and integrated”.
Consequently, they implore those responsible for this situation to clarify the rationale behind this decision, which they deem “sudden,” and to “reevaluate” the possibility of their friends returning to the institution.
Furthermore, a campaign to gather signatures has been initiated to demonstrate the backing of the educational community towards the emotional and social welfare of these boys and girls; reminding everyone that “these are people, not commodities.”
In conclusion, they request that their appeal be taken into account and that, “at the very least,” they be permitted to extend a “proper” farewell to their friend, as they lament having missed the “opportunity” to do so.
