The Tenerife Council through its Highways Department, will alter traffic in the vicinity of the roundabout of Father Anchieta due to the installation of falsework and the sixth module of the walkway forming part of the Great Island Ring of Padre Anchieta.
The procedure will necessitate the closure of both lanes of the aforementioned roundabout; consequently, the accesses from the TF-5 to the TF-24 motorway (towards La Esperanza), Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street, and Avenida de La Trinidad will remain inaccessible. This modification in traffic will be in effect from this Monday until next Thursday.
In light of the aforementioned closures, the following diversions will be implemented: access from TF-5 to TF-24 and Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street via Lora and Tamayo-Mayber street-Camino San Miguel de Geneto-Domingo González Pérez street-TF-265 or The Coromoto. The closures will occur at night from 8:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The Tenerife Cabildo urges drivers to exercise extra caution while travelling through the area during the construction period and to remain attentive to the signs and instructions from the Roads Area personnel at all times.
The works on the Great Pedestrian Ring of Padre Anchieta comprise 11 metal sections each weighing 40 tonnes and represent an investment of €8.8 million. Conducted by Obras Huarte Lain SA, the project involves a continuous curved ring-shaped beam approximately 100 metres in diameter, supported by a specialised system of supports, along with a plaza adjacent to the existing car park of the Faculty of Biology at the University of La Laguna.
Upon completion, the eight pedestrian crossings, which accommodate more than 20,000 individuals daily, will be removed, thus enhancing safety conditions significantly and promoting the smooth flow of traffic.
The design of the Great Pedestrian Ring stands as a significant achievement in this type of infrastructure, having been honoured with the 2019 National Innovation and Design Awards, conferred by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain.
