The aim is to provide an alternative attraction for both residents and visitors by showcasing the gardens and natural spaces of the area. This is the goal of Puerto de la Cruz en flor, a biennial festival organised by the Centre for Tourism Initiatives (CIT) in partnership with the Tenerife City Council and Tourism. This event highlights floral art and botany and introduces fresh and innovative activities this year.
One of these initiatives is Comercio en Flor, where restaurants, shops, and various streets in the city will take part, creating an open commercial route that reflects the festival’s theme. The municipal market will also engage with Mercado en Flor, featuring revitalisation activities made possible by collaboration with the PFAES of Sales, Creas en Verde, and Sustainable Tourism.
Additionally, for the ninth edition, the IES María Pérez Trujillo, along with its students from the Adapted Professional Training Programme 1st PFPA Agrarian-Auxiliary Activities in Nurseries, Gardens and Garden Centres, will contribute by designing a temporary garden in Plaza Concejil.
The festival commences on Monday, October 21, and will continue throughout the week. The programme was unveiled yesterday in the gardens of Casa Rahn by CIT president Juan José Hernández Melián, mayor Leopoldo Afonso, Tourism Councillor Desirée Díaz, Works and Services Councillor Alonso Dionisio Acevedo, and director of IES María Pérez Trujillo, María Rosa Hernández.
As part of the festival, several guided tours will be led by Ramón Michán in various languages through the municipality’s squares and gardens. Meanwhile, Úrsula Talg will conduct a tour of the over 7,000 square metres of gardens at the Tigaiga Hotel. This will be complemented by a historical route to the Botanical Garden and an Escape City adventure entitled The flowers that never withered.
Moreover, the Telesforo Bravo Foundation is organising a route that will reveal different spaces and stories, allowing participants to experience the world of botany in the city. There will also be an open day at the Botanical Garden, and a special admission price will apply for the Sitio Liter Historical Garden.
This year, the CIT has focused on educating schoolchildren, emphasising the importance of familiarising young people with the natural beauty of the municipality to encourage appreciation, maintenance, and conservation efforts.
