Santa Cruz City Council, via the Public Services department, announced that tomorrow night, work will commence on the establishment of the city’s personal mobility network. This initiative will involve alterations and enhancements to the streets aimed at promoting the use of bicycles and electric scooters.
The initial phase of this project will see the resurfacing of the bus lane on Méndez Núñez Street, with the bus stop relocated to Plaza Weyler. This marks the inaugural step in a project projected to span six months, with a budget allocated of 1,700,000 euros, funded by Next Generation European resources.
The Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised that the personal mobility network in the city centre “will incorporate new parking facilities and electric charging stations.” Additionally, “the introduction of the cycle network will facilitate this much-anticipated shift in mobility, beginning with the transformation of the central area, serving as a model of best practices, and assisting in the establishment of the future Low Emissions Zone,” stated the area councillor, Carlos Tarife.
In terms of the forthcoming activities, asphalting on Méndez Núñez Street is scheduled to start on October 27, covering the entire length, from curb to curb, followed by striping and lane implementation. On October 28, work will commence on paving Pilar Street. Villalba Hervás Street is set for resurfacing on November 11, and finally, Bravo Murillo Street will see work commencing on December 2.
