SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Gemma Torres, the president of the Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH), unveiled a new campaign aimed at promoting plasma donation this Wednesday. This initiative is spearheaded by the autonomous entity under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.
During her address, Gemma Torres remarked that Spain continues to experience a shortage of plasma. Consequently, the Ministry of Health initiated a project in 2022 designed to assist the Regional Transfusion Centres across various regions to inform society about the pressing need for plasma.
The ICHH president emphasised the crucial role of plasma in treating rare and chronic illnesses. The campaign, characterised by its relaxed and slightly unconventional approach, revolves around the slogan ‘Show your love for others’. It includes a 20-second television spot and three informative advertorials, each lasting a minute, which are available for viewing on social media and television platforms.
This content will also be tailored for university campaigns, among others. Through these efforts, the objective is to enhance public understanding and raise awareness regarding plasma donation, thereby increasing the number of plasmapheresis procedures conducted in the Canary Islands.
To be eligible to donate plasma, individuals must first be blood donors, weigh over 60 kg, and have good venous access. Plasma is utilised for patients suffering from coagulation disorders, to manage significant haemorrhages, to treat blood-related conditions, for the preparation of blood products, for burn victims, and to address kidney ailments, amongst other uses.
