SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife devoted its culinary and audiovisual programme on the final day of ‘San Sebastián Gastronomika’ to the island’s tropical agriculture, featuring a keynote presentation by Juan Carlos and Jonathan Padrón (El Rincón de Juan Carlos, Adeje).
The Vice President and Tourism Councillor of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, emphasised in a statement that “Tenerife concludes its engagement with a tremendous success in visitor numbers and public attendance at the expansive 200 square metre stand-restaurant, particularly heralding the recognition and respect for the culinary offerings and local produce, which is now gaining heightened visibility in the gastronomic sphere”.
In this context, he noted the chefs alongside the efforts of farmers, ranchers, and artisans “who are achieving remarkable quality in their products, elevating gastronomy and local produce to a distinguished standard.”
Afonso reiterated that initiatives such as this serve to position the destination as a “national gastronomic benchmark.”
The morning commenced with ‘barraquitos’, the quintessential café from Tenerife that has become the starting point for professionals in the industry throughout the three-day congress.
During the tastings of the day, attendees had the opportunity to sample esteemed local wines such as DO Valle de Güímar, La Choza del Cabrero, Hermanos Mesa, Blanco Barrica; Brumas de Ayosa Tinto 2023, SAT Winegrowers from the Güímar region, Tinto, DO Valle de La Orotava; Atlante Blanco Seco 2021, Atlante – Quinta San Antonio, Blanco Barrica and Volcán de Caramujo Tinto 2023, Volcán de Caramujo, Tinto Barrica.
From bananas to ajoblanco avocado, and colourful potato crisps with hard cheese salt, to a lunch featuring delights such as mango tartare, textured papaya with salpicón, or tropical pineapple, these were merely a selection of the products and recipes presented at the island’s stand on the final day of the gastronomic event, which attracted over 700 visitors during its three-day duration.
The accompanying wines for the lunch included DO Abona, Altos de Trevejos Blanco Espumoso 2020, Altos de Trevejos, SL, sparkling white; Finca Vegas, Castellana Negra 2020, Risco Las Vegas, SL, red; DO Ycoden-Daute-Isora, Estrada Marmajuelo Organic 2023, Jose Luis Garcia-Estrada (Bodega Estrada), dry white; and Aceviño Blanco Seco 2023, Fco. Furthermore, the ‘Wine Tunnel’, featuring approximately 40 references from the various denominations of origin of the island, was a notable highlight of Tenerife’s presence at ‘San Sebastián Gastronomika’, with almost 5,000 tastings completed within just the first two days of the event.
