The City Council of Puerto de la Cruz has successfully expedited the reopening of the Plaza de Europa car park, which has been shut since March 15 due to flaws in the fire safety system. This advancement follows a recent Plenary Session where the Government group proposed recognising the public company Sagulpa, specialised in the management and refurbishment of public car parks, as the City Council’s own designated entity.
With the support of the political entities within the local Executive (PP, ACP and CC), this initiative has been enacted, aiming to enable the technical project to be updated through the commission’s involvement, alongside the prompt execution of the necessary works. This approach is much quicker than the lengthy processes associated with a conventional tender.
The intention is to carry out renovations and adaptations of the facilities to comply with current regulations, thereby facilitating the restart of operations.
Consequently, the Government prioritises the restoration of over 300 parking spaces available at this location, situated in the city centre, as it will enable both residents and visitors to park more conveniently and fully experience the advantages that the municipality provides.
Moreover, in addition to the accelerated administrative procedures facilitated by Sagulpa, the Tenerife Cabildo has pledged a financial investment exceeding €4 million in Puerto de la Cruz. The Government perceives this project as one of the utmost municipal significance.
The mayor, Leopoldo Afonso, expresses his contentment in designating Sagulpa SA as their own entity, stating, “This is a vital instrument to progress in resolving the serious issue of public parking within the municipality.”
Additionally, the Councillor for Public Procurement and Heritage and Government spokesperson, Pedro Antonio Campos, notes that “the opportunities presented by Sagulpa enable us to approach the future with optimism and consequently provide the city with increased parking availability.”
