SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7th October (EUROPA PRESS) –
The judicial body overseeing Investigative Court No. 1 of Arona, acting in a safeguarding role, has permitted the provisional release with conditions of the individual who, on the evening of 30th September, allegedly instigated a traffic incident resulting in the fatalities of a 50-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, along with three individuals sustaining serious injuries.
According to the communications office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), analyses suggest that the individual had consumed alcohol and cocaine and is being charged with homicide due to severe recklessness under article 142, bis.
Moreover, as part of the precautionary measures, they are required to report to the court on the 1st and 15th of each month, are prohibited from leaving the island, and their driving licence has been revoked.
The incident took place shortly after 11:15 PM on 30th September on the TF-653 highway in the Guaza region when the 1-1-2 operational room received an alert about a head-on collision involving two vehicles on that road, prompting Cecoes to immediately mobilise the necessary emergency services.
Emergency response included two Heavy Urban Pumps (BUP) and a Command and Control Vehicle (VMC) from the Tenerife Fire Department; a medicalised ambulance, a sanitized ambulance, and two basic life support ambulances from the SUC; along with a doctor and a nurse from the Arico Health Centre; officers from the Civil Guard and Local Police, and staff from the Cabildo’s Road Maintenance Service.
Fire crews worked to secure the vehicles involved in the crash, one of which was overturned, and successfully extricated five individuals from inside the vehicles, four from one and one from the other.
Personnel from SUC and Primary Care confirmed the deaths of a 50-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman. The three others injured, a 52-year-old woman, another 19-year-old woman, and a 42-year-old man, were transported to various hospitals in separate ambulances with serious injuries.
The Civil Guard prepared the necessary report. The Local Police assisted the emergency teams, and members of the Road Maintenance Service undertook cleaning operations on the roadway.
