SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7th October (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife, via the Insular Crafts Company, has launched the XIV Edition of the Tenerife Fashion 2025 International Young Designers Competition. This contest features the awarding of three monetary prizes and aims to foster new talent in textile design.

The presentation ceremony, held today, was attended by Efraín Medina, the Minister of Employment and Education; Kristen Martín, the Minister of Commerce and Business Support; Serafín Mesa, the Minister of Youth and Training; and Natanael Padrón, the director of Tenerife Moda.

Efraín Medina articulated that the aim of this competition, which retains its international character, is to assist emerging designers who aspire to commence their professional journey in the fashion sector, helping to enhance the textile industry as a creator of employment and entrepreneurship among the youth.

Kristen Martín remarked that this initiative is “the outcome of collaboration, engaging everyone in an industry as significant as fashion.” Additionally, Serafín Mesa highlighted that this edition of the competition is “on par with what Tenerife and young designers deserve” and expressed gratitude to the young talents for contributing their creativity to the Island. He also noted the attention given to Fashion in the training and employment incentive project known as ‘Ponos’.

Natanael Padrón, the director of Tenerife Moda, outlined the regulations of the competition, allowing individuals to participate either solo or in groups under a unified brand, regardless of their nationality or country of residence. Participants must be over 18 and not older than 40 by 31st December 2025, according to the contest guidelines already published.

Those wishing to enter this edition have until 14th March 2025 to submit their applications, which can be delivered personally or sent by certified mail to the Insular Crafts Company, located at 27 Tomas Zerolo Street, La Orotava, 38300 (Tenerife, Spain).

Once the list of finalist collections is established, the envelopes will be opened to unveil the participants’ identities and verify their adherence to the qualifications. Afterward, the jury appointed for this occasion will select a total of seven finalists, of whom two must reside in Tenerife.

The selected new designers will showcase their respective collections in a fashion show at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds in June 2024, where the winners will be announced.

To realise their collections, the seven finalists will receive a maximum of 1,500 euros to cover costs related to the creation of ten garments as outlined in their proposal (including apparel, textiles, and accessories). Additionally, designers from other locations will be offered support to cover travel expenses (including transportation of the collection) and accommodation on the Island, enabling them to attend the showcase of the finalist collections and the award presentation.

The jury will determine two winners at the final gala, awarding cash prizes of 5,000 and 3,000 euros based on their ranking, along with an additional prize of 2,000 euros for the most commercially viable collection, which may coincide with the first or second prize of the competition.

In the previous edition of Young Designers of Tenerife, the top prize was awarded to David Pérez from Guadalajara (David Moos). The second prize went to Diego Barroso (Filst) from La Gomera, while Alejandro Niño from Colombia received the award for the most commercially viable collection.
